Elevating Steel Design

Meet the SDI Team

Engineering, Excellence, & Consistency

In 2013, Steel Drafting Innovations (SDI) was conceived by its founder and CEO, George. He identified a clear gap in the steel detailing industry where traditional methods often overshadowed innovation and opportunities for global collaboration were few. This realization fueled his drive to establish SDI. Today, SDI stands at the forefront of innovative steel detailing and design services in the Philippines. Our reach goes beyond the US and Australian steel industries, showcasing our commitment to partnering with entities worldwide.

At the core of our operations is Building Information Modeling (BIM), which empowers us to deliver more than just traditional detailing services. This enables us to offer real-time project information, positioning us as a reliable ally in every construction phase.

Our diverse team of seasoned professionals underscores our commitment to providing exceptional service, whether in a fabrication shop or a construction site. This steadfast dedication has seen us grow from our seven founding members to a robust technical team of fifty skilled individuals, showcasing our ever-expanding capacity to cater to global demands. Our vision reaches far and wide, as we aspire to be a trusted partner in the international construction industry.

Core Processes

Structural steel detailing is a critical process of structural engineering and demands near-99% accuracy. The process of steel detailing is a vital 'communications link' that connects key professionals such as engineers, architects, contractors, fabricators and others—all of whom are individually and collectively responsible for the highest levels of accuracy at each stage.

Steel detailing involves the creation of detailed drawings for fabricators and contractors, and includes plans and estimates, as well as other reports and important tasks. The process involves two main types of drawings—shop drawings and erection drawings.

+
SHOP DRAWINGS specify every small detail of an individual steel component that needs to be made by a steel fabricator. Such drawings include material specifications, component sizes and dimensions, surface treatments, welding, bolting and painting details, and all other information pertaining to the fabrication of each component.
+
ERECTION DRAWINGS portray dimensioned plans and specify the location of each steel component within the overall structure. These drawings include detailed and specific information about the position of each component, the requirements for installing them, and all the associated field work such as installing bolts, wedge anchors and field welding.

Exceeding standards of core processes while promoting teamwork in all stages of detailing.

1
Bidding & Scheduling
To ensure accurate project scheduling and adherence to the client's timeframe, we employ an in-house estimator and collaborate with consultants to validate our project bids.
2
Modeling Preparation
We immediately initiate stick modeling regardless of whether a notice to proceed has been issued. This approach enables us to rapidly model the primary steel components and generate advanced Bills of Materials.
3
Checking
Upon completing the model, we conduct a meticulous examination against the design drawings. During this phase, we formulate questions and consolidate them into Requests for Information (RFIs).
4
Drawing Refinement
In the drawing refinement process, our dedicated team of editors, well-versed in 3D modeling software with Building Information Modeling (BIM) capabilities, ensures that drawings are meticulously fine-tuned to align precisely with client requirements and standards.
